About Daniel W Green
I was born and raised in Sheboygan and currently live in Hilbert, Wisconsin. I’m a self-taught artist and over the past five years have learned that discipline is one key ingredient in order for me to continuously improve as an emerging artist.
My work tells a story about the lives of our grandparents and great-grandparents. I am drawn to life in the early to mid 20th century and love photography from this time. Being a part time antique dealer and collector also helps by allowing me to obtain items and photographs from that time period, not only for reference, but also for inspiration. A personal object can tell me a lot about the person who owned it and how they lived. Many people are drawn to my paintings of mid century American automobiles. I must admit, I do love the chrome as much as the rust. It has become a large part of my work.
In the past year I have also become very passionate about our 16th president and the people in his life. After coming across a vintage book of Lincoln in photographs I decided to create a portrait of him. Working to create a likeness and capture the emotion of this great man, I began to paint one portrait after another quickly realizing that a series was emerging. Many have painted Lincoln and many more will after me, but for me the Lincoln Project is a very personal endeavor of discovery.
